Mr. Satisfaction aka Benny Benassi will be touring through Las Vegas, NV Friday night on May 18th as a part of his Marquee Metamorphosis residency (in which he will also be playing for Memorial Day Weekend). We’ve yet to check out his Metamorphosis nights but from the looks of it, there’s a lot of cirque du soleil-type contortionist prancing and dancing around. Check back for the recap if we can remember what happens…

This weekend will be a pre-party for MDW in Las Vegas as Ferry Corsten will be playing Saturday night and Marquee Day Club will host Above and Beyond for the newly minted Wet Wonderland presented by Insomniac (expect a DIRTYCHOONS recap of their LA performance as well).

Did we mention the Billboard Music Awards are happening in Las Vegas too? And the Amir Khan boxing match? There will be massive out of this world type celebrations this weekend for sure. Top hotspot Marquee at The Cosmopolitan will be the place to be and if you catch some celeb sightings as well. 

Metamorphosis at Marquee Las Vegas

 A behind-the-scenes look at the brand new Metamorphosis show featuring Benny Benassi at Marquee Nightclub in Las Vegas.

Los Angeles based duo SPEAKERS fuse elements of dance, R&B, hip-hop and electronic pop, to craft their own unique sound on their debut EP New Frequency which as released on May 8. The entire EP is now streaming on their FACEBOOK.

On the four-track EP (released by Virgin Records in conjunction with independent label Newco, where the duo were first discovered by Troy Carter and Matt Michelsen), singer/rapper/lyricist Keon B and musician/producer Blair Taylor fuse genres and deliver hyper-experimental party jams like “Bass” and the funked-up instant classic “And Her Too.” New Frequency also features guest appearances from Travie McCoy of Gym Class Heroes (on “Runnin’ It,” an old-school-spirited anthem backed by a futuristic groove) and songstress NiRé All’Dai (on “Right Right,” a super-slick, club-ready banger).

Today, Axtone Records releases the Thomas Gold’s remix of “The Wave” – a standout track from Miike Snow’s critically acclaimed new album Happy To You and featured on Thomas Gold’s forthcoming debut Axtone Mix compilation, Axtone Presents Thomas Gold (out May 28).

It’s been an amazing year thus far for Miike Snow as they completely sold out their Happy To You USA tour and look to follow up an amazing performance at Coachella. 

Miike Snow has crossed over to the dance world with a high profile remix of “Devil’s Work” from Dirty South that recently spent a week at #1 on Beatport AKA a massive CHOON. With Thomas Gold’s latest record “Sing2Me” going all the way to Beatport #1, Thomas returns on Axtone to deliver a stadium sized re-work of Miike Snow’s “The Wave.” While the original provides a melancholic soundscape built around a rolling military snare and crisp piano, Thomas Gold plants them alongside the vocal line and fat synths; building to an epic melody fuelled banger.

From the people who brought you Supperclub and Roxbury, Boulevard Nightlife Group is opening up a new club this Thursday where Cabanna Club use to be. We recently went to a private Avengers/Acura event where we were able to get a sneak peak of the venue insides and it’s definitely a mega club with a Vegas feel.  50,000 watt Line Array sound system with lighting designed by the renowned Steve Lieberman and high-definition LED Walls EVERYWHERE. If you ever seen this club while it was Cabanna Club then you’ll notice this club got transformed.

Oh did we mention Wolfgang Gartner?

Lure is designed by critically acclaimed architect and designer, Gulla Jonsdottir, a 2009 recipient of Hospitality Design’s “Wave of the Future” award. Jonsdottir is the creative and visionary force behind some of the most striking hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, and spas in the world. Oh yeah, and it’s also a celebration of Don Johnson…I don’t think it’s Miami Vice Don Johnson and probably Ballin’ Don Johnson who reportedly bought an endless supply of bottles in Vegas some odd months ago. Either way, Thursday night is going to be one hell of a launch.

SF based tech funk label took over Control Fridays at Avalon showcasing their artists Claude Von Stroke, Justin Martin and Worthy. Claude Von Stroke (real name is Barclay) who is actual the label founder from Detroit has been picking up some serious steam in the house genre. A far deviation from your typical Swedish House Mafia style house, the vibes and music at Avalon were akin to warehouse parties in downtown LA. Pretty much what the cool hip kids are listening to in the LA scene. Think your DJ’s DJ.

Expect to be hearing more of this subgenre of house to be emerging. Props the folks over at Avalon recognized and brought in the talent.

Follow Steve Angello, AN21, Max Vangeli, Third Party, Tim Mason, Quilnez and Wayne & Woods as they take over EDM. Those damn swedes. Collectively, the Swedish House Mafia’s individual members each have their own record label (Sebastian Ingrosso – Refune / Axwell – Axtone) and they are dominating in recruiting the best talent out there. 

Pretty much breaking off from Ultra Music Festival, they produced their own high production event ‘Masquerade Motel‘ and featuring talent from their squad. To be honest, who doesn’t want to be apart of it? When kids like ALESSO are waiting at the doorsteps to join the crew… 

I’m predicting 90% of all the artists on their labels will be successful. We’ll just have to wait and see…

SPEAKERS – its creators: singer, rapper, and lyricist Keon B and musician-producer Blair Taylor. Grammy Award winning Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy teamed up with Virgin Records duo, speakers to create “Runnin’ It” –  described as rhythmic pop, urban, and electronic music. We like their direction and will always support young LA talent, let’s hope it steers more toward that electronic sound.

On a rainy Saturday night, DIRTYCHOONS went to check out HARDfest LOS ANGELES at The Wiltern in Koreatown. If you’ve never gone to this venue before then you’re missing out on a great overlooked location. The Wiltern in Koreatown is one of LA’s well-known architectural sights designed with an Art Deco style exterior but the interior of has the feel of an old vaudeville establishment that has been around for many years.

The first heavy hitter up was none other than JACK BEATS. These UK blokes stopped in LA as part of their North American tour and recently coming off an Ultra Music Festival gig in Miami, FL. These guys were dropping a heavy heavy set and to be quite honest, had no idea of any tracks they were playing but they were damn good. By the end of their set, they had the entire place chanting JACK BEATS over and over.

Now the headliner of the night is a former DMC Champion, Fool’s Gold record label bossman, former KANYE West DJ, blood brothers with one of dudes from Chromeo, one half of DJ group Duck Sauce which produced the worldwide hit ‘Barbara Streisand‘ and a pretty damn good DJ in his own right. Damn, ATRAK does it ALL. Oh yeah, he likes to review hotels too…

I mean I’ve seen him 3-4 times within the past couple years and it’s always refreshing to see him because he constantly improving his production skills and stays true to his roots by dropping hip hop and putting in some nasty scratch kuts in his sets. One testament to his production skills is his CHOONTASTIC remix of Martin Solveig’s ‘The Night Out’.

Now he’s adding another element into his DJ sets which is the new production stage…I’ll let you take a look below!

Insomniac’s Beyond Wonderland over the past weekend was like a swampland due to the rain but those who ventured out to San Bernardino got the reward of seeing ASOT (A State Of Trance) 550 which is Armin Van Burren’s weekly radio show. To celebrate the 550th show, they brought out talents such as Arty, Gareth Emery, Ayla & Fila and of course the man of the hour, Mr. Armin Van Buuren. 

As usual, there’s always a ‘recovery’ party hosted at Playhouse in Hollywood. I don’t think you understand. Monday nights should not be that packed… Whoever deemed the wording for a recovery party must be one sick individual because if anything, it’s going to extend the amount of time you need to recover from the onslaught of partying and heavy bass – of course, none other than Netherland’s HARDWELL was scheduled to play the show. The last time we covered HARDWELL at MNS, it was utter madness having the likes of Skrillex, Afrojack, his girlfriend Paris Hilton and a slew of other top talent DJs in attendance. However, as always, there’s always a random selection of party goers at Playhouse such as Jenny Mcarthy, NSYNC’s Joey Fatone and some Dancing with The Stars cast members.

If you don’t know by now, HARDWELL, is top tier talent and he also has one of the best radioshowsout there. He always debuts the newest choons, gives up and coming DJs mad support and there’s TRACKLISTINGS

Sorry for the late review folks. It’s been hectic and I know everyone is gearing up for Beyond Wonderland and also Ultra Music Festival…

DIRTYCHOONS sent out a Viktor, our newest correspondent to Laidback Luke’s Super You and Me Tour at The Hollywood Palladium on March 10, 2012.

Here’s what he had to say…

Genres? Eff genres… Laidback Luke does not care about genres. He plays music that he thinks is good and he gets the crowd pumping, that’s what he does.

Kicking off his North American “Speak Up” tour South of the Border in Mexico, in Red Hot Arizona, and Lucky Las Vegas, Laidback Luke brought his infamous Super You & Me show to the iconic Hollywood Palladium on the fourth night of his bus tour. Amnizzle and I got a chance to catch him in action.

After getting some car troubles out of the way (aka Amnizzle’s car ran out of gas), we jetted off to the Palladium and got there just in time to catch the tail-end of Joaquin Bamaca’s electro heavy set and the transition over to Superman Zedd‘s heavy hitting set filled with electro house favorites and some surprises.

In case you’re wondering, the Super You & Me shows are special superhero themed and performers, as well as the attendees, are encouraged to dress up in superhero costumes! This was one of two Super You & Me shows that were scheduled as part of this tour. We found a few top notch costumes in the crowd of un-costumed attendees but few were camera ready.

Laidback Luke took the stage at 1am and immediately got cheers from the crowd with his long awaited new choon, “Speak Up!”, a house anthem with thumping beats, an addicting synth line and featuring the sexy vocals of Wynter Gordon. The track is officially released on Beatport March 12th and everywhere else on March 27th. We hear that April is going to bring a crazy remix package with interpretations of “Speak Up” by Chris Lake, Mark Knight, Oliver Twizt, Moska and Das Kapital.

LBL’s set took everybody on a rollercoaster ride that kept going higher and higher. As mentioned above, Luke does not care about genres and plays to his heart (and our hearts’) desires with an awesome mix of progressive house, electro house, old school hip hop and his signature Dirty Dutch sounds. Of course, we here at DirtyChoons love the Dirty Dutch sound… how could we not? It’s so DIRTY!

Unfortunately, with Daylight Savings time against us, Amnizzle and I had to leave at the beginning of GTA’s set because we had early morning appointments the next day. It was 4am when we left (technically 3am for me and 6am for Amnizzle who just flew in from NYC) but Laidback Luke’s music was still flowing through our veins. For a quick second, we contemplated hitting up the Wavehouse in San Diego the next afternoon for another dose of Laidback Luke, this time on the beach sans superheroes.

Commencing March 9 in Las Vegas, Nevada and ending April 22 in Bloomington, Indiana this seven-week tour brings Laidback Luke and his Mixmash cohorts GTA and Oliver Twizt to cities of all sizes; many of which Luke’s never visited before.
