Looking for a sexy time? Meet KREWLLA, a fiesty dubstep/electro trio hailing from Chicago. The group is composed of sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf and producer Kris Trindl, better known as “Rain Man.” Their blend of arousing vocals, exciting electro beats, and teasing dubstep drops makes Krewella an all-around good time. As their Facebook describes, they’re out to ”making you wet…one song at a time.”

DIRTYCHOONS INTERVIEW:

How did the three of you get into EDM and what inspires your music?

Our production has always sounded electronic, it just had a different vibe 5 years ago. Rain Man used to play in metal bands so his inspiration is deeply rooted in the guitar riffs and breakdowns he used to write. The girls’ songwriting is inspired by Kris’ monstrous melodies, music they were raised on, and life experiences.

How did the three of you meet and decide to create Krewella?

For those of you who don’t know, the girls are sisters. Jahan met Kris in high school and they started to make music under “Krewella” as a hobby and asked Yasmine to join a few months later when it started becoming serious.

What are you looking forward to most this year?

Following up our “Play Hard” EP with all of the new material we’re in the process of making. We’ve never felt so passionate about our music as we do right now. Releasing our first full project, touring, traveling, meeting our fans, and raging with these people has been incredibly inspiring to us and is fueling our current records.

Jahan and Yasmine: What is it like to be female vocalists/DJs in a mostly male dominated industry?

Being female artists in a male dominated industry doesn’t even phase us. It’s an equal playing field when you bring it just as fucking hard as any other artist/DJ, male or female.

On Facebook, you seem to be pretty tight with Adventure Club. How did you all meet and will there be a collaboration any time in the future?

We started talking about collaborating over Twitter and eventually were in the same town to make it happen. We love those crazy motherfuckers. They’re some of our favorite producers in the EDM industry.

Describe the perfect performance/DJ set.

70% sweaty raging. 15% anticipation for the drop that is going to eat your face. 10% moments to breathe and make out with the person next to you. 5% crowd surfing/Jamo shots.

What was it like performing with Benny Bennassi at the Indy 500? How does it feel to know you made a mark on EDM history by performing at the world’s largest sporting event?

AMAZING. To be an act that is upcoming yet chosen to be part of an integral moment in EDM history is an honor. Benny is an amazing DJ and we are blessed to have shared the stage with him.

Where did you get your inspiration for your debut EP, Play Hard? Were there any bands/artists that inspired your sound for the upcoming EP?

Most of the inspiration we had for the EP was from each other since we lived together in our loft/studio in Chicago for a year where we holed to up to work on it.

What has been the best part about going on tour? Which venues have been your favorite so far? Which places are you looking most forward to playing at in the upcoming months?

The best part of tour is raging with our fans and meeting the people who love the music we put our hearts into. Can’t tell you how good it feels to get sweaty hugs from all these kids who basically know who we are through our records.
