This past Saturday night, the world’s #1 DJ (as proclaimed by DJ Mag) was immortalized at the famed Graumans’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. David Guetta became the first DJ to have his handprints set in cement, a tradition at the famed theater reserved for some of entertainment’s biggest stars. Surrounded by media, friends, family, and industry folk, he graciously accepted the honor, while marking a significant step for EDM.
“Thank you very much for this honor, great to see this DJ culture coming to America” proclaimed Guetta.
The Frenchman can be attributed for helping bring EDM into the American mainstream with his collaborations with artists such as Akon, Kid Cudi, Rihanna, Black Eye Peas, etc. Die hard EDM fans might not approve of their former “underground” genre moving into the pop music spotlight and may blame Guetta for it, but look at all the success of other rising DJs/Producers, like Afrojack, Calvin Harris, and Avicii, who followed Guetta through the doors of opportunity he created.
After the ceremony, capped off by cake and champagne, Guetta rocked a sold out show at the theater’s converted ballroom into club. The spot was literally filled to capacity, as the “stick up the ass” fire marshals were on the verge of shutting the party down, but ultimately, the bottles continued to pop and the flock of beautiful people packed the house to celebrate a momentous occasion.
