Well, this post of Insomniac’s Electric Daisy Carnival in Los Angeles in 2009 is over a week overdue, but that’s fine because Michael Jackson’s death has left me in a state of mourning.
His memorial processions will be at The Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday at 10:00am and will be broadcasted via the web and television. And yes, I applied for a chance to attend the memorial but had to compete with 1.6 million or so people from around the world for about 8-9k available tickets. I would rant more on this issue, but I’m sure you hear enough about it elsewhere.

Electric Daisy Carnival was another successful production by Insomniac. This year they opted to go for the festival style arrangement by making it a two day event opposed to years prior of just one day. It was the first time they have done this and first time in California that an electronic dance oriented production company to attempt this.
Initially, I thought it could be risky to make it a two day event because it might be too diluted and fans would not crowd-in to make it successful.
However, due to a stellar line-up and some festival price point tactics the event, both nights, did well. ( tickets for Friday’s weaker line up was $55 and Saturday’s were $65, while a combo package was about 105)(Coachella pulls the same shit, but a little sneakier by saying the one day tickets are ‘sold out’)
Friday was quite enjoyable, I only caught a sliver of Eddie Halliwell’s set at Kinetic. He was among the many DJs who should have been put on a better time slot. But overally it was a fun night because it was swarmed with people.
Saturday had a better lineup but so crowded it was hard to see any of the DJs.
Pros: VIP liqour, Kinetic Stage sound system , Sander Van Doorn, Drum And Bass on Saturday, Yoji Biohemenika rocking Tom Jones?
Semi-Pro: The invasion of the Melbourne Shuffle–shit was everywhere!
(Link of dudes doin M-shuffles)
Cons: DAVID GUETTA–who the fuck drops Kernkraft 400 – zombie nation besides at a NBA game?
